Ductless Split A/C Systems

Higher Efficiency & Lower Cost

Traditional duct-based cooling systems employ a condenser that sends refrigerant into your home’s interior ducts, where the air circulates throughout your rooms. Better technology and design have resulted in an alternative to the duct system: a ductless split A/C system! Not only is it more effective, but it provides homeowners with an unprecedented level of control over their home’s climate.

How Ductless Systems Work

Ductless split systems employ a condenser like a conventional unit, which sends cooling liquid through copper wiring to the interior of your home. However, instead of a duct system of circulating air, it sends it directly to a wall-mounted blower that sends cool air directly into each room. In addition, up to 3 blowers can be attached to a single condenser. With this type of air conditioner unit, you could effectively create “cooling zones” in your home, setting up areas that can be controlled independently.

This creates three main benefits for homeowners:

  • Age – How old is your furnace? If it's more than 10 years old, major repairs or replacement could be necessary.

  • Repair frequency – When was the last time you had repairs? If its more than two or three in the same year, repairs may not be worth it.

  • Energy bills – Have you noticed an increase in your energy bills? An inefficient heater could be costing you more money than you realize!

  • Comfort – Heater not keeping you warm and cozy anymore? On top of costing you more money, if your heater is costing you comfort, it's time for service or replacement.

Each blower comes with its own temperature and timer settings. If your rooms only have occupants at certain parts of the day, you can set one blower to cool a single area and leave the others off. If you have occupants in every room, the blowers are no less effective. This presents a number of cost-saving opportunities for homes that don’t need to be cold 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating at Twice the Legal Requirement

The law states that new units must have a SEER rating of 13, while most ductless units rate in the mid-20s. Thanks to their efficiency, many ductless split systems are SEER-rated twice as high as the minimum. It not only saves you money, but reduces your home’s carbon footprint. The lack of ducts also means no rattling, much quieter operation, and less cold air loss.

There are a number of other advantages when it comes to other factors as well. Since openings need only be 7 – 10 cm to connect the condenser to the blower, there’s a much less invasive and costly installation process involved. In addition, condensers can be up to 15 metres away from the blowers—potentially reducing the noise level for your home even more.
